HEALING WITH THE ELEMENTS
10th to 15th October, 2017
SW COAST - PORTUGAL
A healing journey awaits you in a unique eco resort in Portugal, the perfect location to disconnect from a busy life and tune into yourself. Through the lens of the 4 basic elements - Fire, Water, Earth and Air - we will be unlocking and opening your body and mind to the intuitive healing it needs. Each day we will start with an energising dynamic yoga practice (Mandala Vinyasa or Rocket) and finish with calming Yin Yoga and Meditation.
The aim of this retreat is to give you a real sense of connection to yourself and to your purpose, to bring you clarity and to give you the tools you need to keep your practice going into your daily life. No more feeling overwhelmed and that life is slipping through your fingers. If you’re ready to become the healthiest and happiest version of you, grab your spot now before the price goes up.
Portugal is my home country so you will be with a local that speaks the language and can guide you through the best places and secret beaches from the south west coast. I might be a bit suspicious when comes to describe Portugal so I leave the video bellow directed by Pedro Varela. Sometimes images speak more than words:
"With its mild climate, 3000 hours of sunshine per year and 850 kms of splendid beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is the perfect holiday destination all year round.
This is a country that has the oldest borders in Europe, with an exceptional range of different landscapes just a short distance away, lots of leisure activities and a unique cultural heritage, where tradition and modernity blend together in perfect harmony. Its superb cuisine, fine wines and hospitable people make this a tourist paradise of the highest quality.
Situated in the extreme south-west of Europe, just a few hours from any of the other European capitals, Portugal attracts visitors from all over the world. Come and discover the charms of this country too."
Have you imagined to shower under the stars, sleep in a rustic but comfortable and exotic environment, waking up with the sound of singing birds and reconnect with nature? Aterra is an ecological campsite on the Southwest coast of Alentejo, Portugal that can offer you this and more. A peaceful site in a valley surrounded by woodlands, fruit trees and grasslands, offering guests a unique ‘glamping’ experience. You are invited to stay in romantic Rajasthani tents, stunning yurts or auspicious tipis, beside a large freshwater lake. Only 90 minutes driving from Faro airport and just 6km from the seaside, you can explore an array of wild and wonderful beaches close by, surf the waves of this renowned coastline or kayak/paddle the Mira and Odeceixe rivers.
The Rajasthani tents are perfect for couples, with double bed and private bathroom. The yurts and tipi tents are perfect for a group of friends and can accommodate max 4 adults with one double bed, 2 single beds, basic hand wash facilities and shared toilets and showers.
Each tent has a private terrace with comfy chairs, they are all raised up onto platforms of either wood or slate, maintaining a clean and insect free zone.
All tents and tipis have electric lighting and sockets. There are rails to hang your clothes, side tables and mirrors.
The interior decoration is stylish yet simple. Each tent is different and has been individually tailored with spectacular patterned Indian linings. Most of the furniture has been handmade using wood or other natural materials from the land or locally. All of the rooms have a thick mattress, sheets, duvets and pillows. Towels and fresh laundry are provided.

THE YOGA PRACTICE
Inspired by my last teacher training in Goa of Mandala and Shamanism, I'm basing this retreat on the basic 4 elements: Fire, Water, Earth and Air. Accordingly to the Mayan Calendar, each day represents and element so we will be starting our retreat on a Fire day and finishing with Water. We will base our yoga practice on the element of the day, synchronising ourselves with the rhythms of the universe.
Mandala Vinyasa routines are based on asanas and structure of the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa: warm up (sun salutations), standing, seated and closing. Instead of using a linear pattern, Mandala Vinyasa integrates the spiral patterns that nature uses, exploring circular movements with our bodies and in space, moving 360º around the mat.
Rocket is a style of yoga developed by Larry Schultz in San Francisco during the 1980s. The routines are also based on poses of the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa primary and intermediate series but breaking them down into moves that are more accessible to beginners. This vibrant routine is called the “Rocket” because, “it gets you there faster.” The Rocket is designed to wake up the nervous system and feed it the precious prana it craves while promoting a spirit of change and freedom in the practice.
An introspective practice and a slow-paced style of yoga where we hold postures for longer periods of time so that moderate stress is applied to the connective tissue, tendons, fascia and ligaments, with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improve flexibility. Every single pose is held between 3 to 5 minutes but is on the rebound counter-postures when the yin happens and emotions, tension, blocks, tightness and resistance are released. Yin challenges the mind cultivating stillness and awareness, is a great preparation for meditation and open is for all levels, either you are an experienced yogi, or a beginner.
